The Team

Dr Tony Stocker - Chairman

Professor Simon Biggs - CSO
Chamelic’s founder, Simon has been working in the area of colloid and particle science for over 20 years and is currently the director of the BNFL – Leeds Alliance in Particle Science & Technology. Institute of Particle Science & Engineering, University of Leeds, UK. Prior to his appointment at Leeds, he was head of Chemistry at the University of Newcastle, Australia. His area expertise is in surface chemistry, particularly in the area of particle-surface interactions. Prof Biggs has worked extensively with major multinational companies around the world in the development of new products and processes, which are being successfully marketed. He has built up significant knowledge and intellectual property in these areas and regularly collaborates and consults with companies such as P&G, ICI.   He is internationally known for his work on surface and particle force interaction and all aspects of the characterisation of surfaces.

Jeff Eaves - CEO
Jeff joined Chamelic from the IP Group plc, the intellectual property commercialisation company that specialises in commercialising university technology.  Prior to this Jeff was was a Director in the Commercial Transaction Services team at Deloitte, providing commercial due diligence services to both Private Equity and Corporate clients. Before joining Deloitte, he carried out a similar role for KPMG giving him a total of eight years' experience in due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. Jeff also spent eleven years with ICI, most recently as Global Product Manager for a range of synthetic lubricants. He worked as a post-doctoral researcher at MIT before joining ICI. Jeff has an MBA from the Open University where he now has a part-time role as an Associate Lecturer in business strategy. He has a BSc and PhD in chemistry from the University of Durham.

Shane Scanlon - Polymer Scientist
Shane graduated in Ireland with a degree in polymer engineering. Upon completion of his degree, he took on an industrial sponsored PhD (Dow chemical) at the Centre for Molecular Nanoscience, Department of Chemistry, University of Leeds. His PhD involved investigating the use of nanostructured porous materials based on self-assembling biopolymers. Following on from this Shane took up a 3 year postdoctoral research scientist position in the same group working on two large european projects. The aim of this work was to advance the science and technology of sustainable and functional biomaterials. Shane then switched his focus to an industrial setting by joining SCF Processing Ltd, Ireland as a materials engineer and then in August 2010 joined Chamelic Ltd as a research scientist. His work involves the micro encapsulation and characterization of particles for industrial applications.

Mathieu Dubois - Polymer Scientist
Mathieu graduated in 2010 in Strasbourg, France, with both a Master degree in polymer science (physics and chemistry) and an Engineering diploma at ECPM Strasbourg (European School of Chemistry, Polymers and Materials Science), both in polymer science. He joined Chamelic Ltd in December 2010, where he works with the chemistry of polymers and micro encapsulation of actives.
Previously, Mathieu worked during his internships in the Netherlands to improve the process of a HDPE plant, and in France in a universitary laboratory, on the making of liquid crystal particles using a microfluidic process.

Prodip Sarker - Polymer Scientist
Prodip completed his PhD in polymer chemistry in 2003 at the Department of Chemistry, University of Sheffield. Following this he took up a postdoctoral research associate position with the University of Sheffield from 2003-2009. Prodip’s research interests include: functional polymers, block-copolymers, controlled synthesis of biopolymers, self-assembly systems, biosensors and polymer conjugates. Prodip specialises in the analysis of polymers by MALDI-TOF MS-SEC. Following his academic career, Prodip took up a polymer chemist position with Farapack Polymers Ltd from 2010-2011 before joining Chamelic as a polymer chemist in January 2012.

Will Breeze - Chemist
Will obtained a degree in chemistry from the University of Hull. Whilst there he focused on organic  and bioinorganic chemistry. His dissertation was on novel liquid crystal polymers. As part of this work he made four new biparallel liquid crystal polymers. Will's work with Chamelic involves batch production of polymers and undertaking formulation and application research.

Alison Fielding - Non Executive Director
Alison co-founded Techtran Group Ltd and was the Chief Operating Officer of Techtran when it was acquired by IP Group in January 2005. Previously, she spent five years at McKinsey & Co where she consulted primarily to the pharmaceutical and health care sectors. Prior to McKinsey, Ali spent four years as a development chemist for Zeneca, performing technical roles in the speciality chemicals and agrochemicals divisions. Ali holds an MBA from Manchester Business School, a PhD in Organic Chemistry and a first class degree in Chemistry from the University of Glasgow. Ali is a trustee of Care International UK, one of the world’s three biggest aid agencies working with 82m people in 87 countries, and also of UnLtd, a pioneer and leader in supporting social entrepreneurs in the UK.

Ignacio Martinez -  Non Executive Director
Ignacio has significant experience in venture capital investing globally in Life Sciences, Cleantech and Agribusiness. At Syngenta Ventures he is responsible for investing in and managing a portfolio of companies that can provide strategic value and financial returns for Syngenta. He currently serves on boards of several of the fund’s portfolio companies. Prior to Syngenta Ventures, Ignacio was the CFO of Progenika, an international biotechnology group of companies. Located first in Europe and then in the US, Ignacio led the finance and operations functions, raised venture capital, created spin-offs and successfully participated in the international expansion of the group. Prior to Progenika, he spent several years working in venture capital investing in Life Sciences and IT first in Najeti Ventures and then at Seed Capital. He holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from Deusto University and completed an International MBA at IE Business School in Spain and Germany.

Phil Cammerman - Non Executive Director
During the first part of his career, Phil spent 20 years in industry in the USA, UK and Europe, mainly working in small and medium sized businesses (SMEs).
